About Space for Shorebirds

Space for Shorebirds is unlike any other project in the county, as it is responsible for conserving shorebirds along the whole of the coastline from Seaton Sluice to Berwick upon Tweed. It’s main objective is to reduce the impact of recreation upon our nationally and internationally important bird populations. It also has a vital role in conserving the beautiful flower rich dune systems and grasslands that we are so lucky to have here on the Northumberland coast.

Space for Shorebirds is the name for the Northumberland County Council Coastal Mitigation Service, which is funded by house builder and tourism developer contributions through the planning system.

Space for Shorebirds has a steering group to guide the project and monitor it’s progress. By having expert guidance, Space for Shorebirds is able to direct resources where they can make the most difference to the wildlife of the Northumberland coast.
